Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage aims to treat the cause of a disorder, not only the symptoms, and is a collective term that uses a range of soft-tissue techniques such as…

  • deep tissue massage,
  • sports massage,
  • myofascial release and
  • trigger point therapy

Remedial massage is one of the most popular forms of massage and is effective in treating a wide range of people from professional athletes to the over worked and stressed office worker.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a massage treatment that uses a “press and release” method focusing on tiny knots that have formed in the muscle as a result of injury or overuse. Trigger points are known to cause headaches, lower back pain, neck pain and joint pain. Trigger point therapy used in conjunction with a remedial massage treatment is an effective way to get rid of muscular aches and pains that have resulted from…

  • stress
  • physical training
  • poor posture
  • repetitive movements

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage is a type of massage designed to prepare a woman’s body for childbirth. We focus on areas around the lower back and hips, where changes are occurring as a result of the hormone Relaxin, and other tight muscles that have occurred as the body has changed with it’s new weight distribution.

At Newstead Remedial Massage we use a specially designed pregnancy cushion/pillow that leaves you fully supported allowing you to lay face down.

Pregnancy Massage also helps in reducing sciatic pain and lower back pain, increases serotonin and dopamine, assists with blood flow and circulation, and is usually safe through all trimesters of pregnancy, unless you are at high risk.

All our massage therapists are fully qualified and accredited, hold a current first aid and are registered with private health funds.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is one of the powerful tools that our therapists have in their toolkit to help treat a number of soft tissue issues that develop. Dry needling to the naked eye looks just like acupuncture where the therapist inserts solid filiform needles into the body to restore function however the rational and treatment protocols are very different. Where acupuncture takes an eastern and holistic approach that aims to balance “qi” “energy throughout the body dry needling uses a western approach that aims to influence the numerous inflammatory and pain-producing chemicals associated with a muscle knot “trigger point'” that are negatively impacting how you are moving.

When you come in you’ll see that the needles used are very very thin, so thin in fact a lot of people can’t feel them go in. If the target muscle is particularly sensitive from being stuck in a shorted position for an extended period of time you may experience a short lasting twitch or cramp sensation. After people experience the effectiveness and relief that the needles provide they then associate the twitching or cramping with the release of the muscle.

If you’d like to try Dry Needling out for yourself, Jake, Penny and Claire all offer dry needling.
